Can we fix it?

The community centre building is over twenty years old now, and as time passes, parts of the building need a little love. Over the past five years the committee has successfully fundraised to install new flooring and a new kitchen at the centre.

Under the conditions of our lease with Bristol City Council, the volunteer committee is responsible for the upkeep of the building. We also of course want to provide the best possible facilities for local residents. The committee has identified a couple of areas that we want to work on:

  • New double-glazed windows and fire doors in the main hall. This would improve security and hopefully reduce our energy bills.
  • More energy efficient lighting throughout the building.
  • Replacing the fence between us and the park with a low fence and widening the back gate. We would like to make this a really welcoming entrance to the community centre.
All these things cost money, and we are busy with a fundraising plan to pay for the work. We believe that St George needs places like the community centre, which is home to many groups and classes, as well as being a venue for community events and family celebrations. Hundreds of local residents use the centre every week.
