Open your street for play!

Would you like to make your street safer for play? Or get to know your neighbours better? Then come along to an after school drop in on Monday 5 October to find out more. Open from 3 - 5pm.

Tamsin and Jacky are local activators for Playing Out, a not-for-profit organisation set up to activate street play across the UK. They will be on hand to provide advice and support about how to organise playing out sessions on your street. All accompanied by the essential tea and cake of course...

Pregnancy Yoga is Back!

Yoga can be a great way to relax in pregnancy, plus there's the chance to meet other local mums-to-be. Sally Davies is a very experienced teacher and has been running pregnancy yoga classes at the community centre for many years alongside her regular Hatha Yoga class.

UPDATE: the course due to start on 28 September has been postponed. Please call Sally on 07803 896 268 or email sallyyogabristol@yahoo.co.uk for information about future courses.

Working Party - 13 September

It's time for a tidy up at St George Community Centre! Volunteers are very welcome to join us on Sunday 13 September from 3.00 - 5.00pm. We will be clearing out clutter, tidying the cupboards and weeding the garden.

We can promise plenty of tea and cake to fuel the workers, hope to see you there...

On your marks, get set, bake!

There's another fab WI.RED event at the community centre on Wednesday at 7.30pm. The great WI.RED Bake Off is open to all, non-members welcome (guests £4). There are eight categories, all with prizes:

Cakes
Cupcakes & Muffins
Bread & Pastries
Chutney & Jam
Traybakes
Little Treats (fudge, sweets etc)
Biscuits
'Free From' Gluten Free

There's also an overall Star Baker prize, which I'm reliably informed well worth winning!

Bring your cakes along from 7:30pm, meeting starts at 8:00pm. While the judges get to work there will be a Tai Chi session in the Park....

Table Top Sale - 17 May 2015

Not long to go now until our Table Top Sale on Sunday 17 May! It's a fundraiser for us, so all income from stall fees and the mighty cake stall will go towards supporting the work of St George Community Centre.

It's also a chance for local residents to get together and buy and sell - as one person's trash is another's treasure. It's basically BS5 Booty the old-fashioned way... So pop along at 2pm next Sunday and grab a bargain. We'll also be serving tea, coffee and homemade cake. See you there!

We have space for a few extra stalls, so if you fancy joining us, please get in touch.

New Committee

We held our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 25 March, and we are delighted to say that we now have three brand new members on our Management Committee. It's great to have some enthusiastic new faces, and we have plenty of ideas and plans for the year ahead.

Very sadly, we will be saying goodbye to our Treasurer Rhiannon Reid, who announced that she would like to step down from the role after over 13 years of service. We will be advertising for a new Treasurer shortly, but would like to say a huge thank you to Rhiannon who has managed the centre's finances so effectively. A hard act to follow!

We were also really pleased that some of our hirers came to show their support at the AGM. Without the groups that use us, there simply wouldn't be a Community Centre, so thank you!

Our current Management Committee:

Tamsin Harcourt (Chair)
Jo Chesterman (Secretary)
Haylee Cowley
Nic Hope
Sally King
Heather Knipprath-Potts

Volunteering Opportunity

Could you help run St George Community Centre?
We're looking for new people to join our management committee

About us
St George Community Centre is an affordable venue for a diverse range of groups and activities. From Tai Chi to Toddler Groups, there's always plenty going on. We have a Community Asset Transfer from Bristol City Council (who own the building) and all the income we generate is used to maintain this vital community resource.

About you
  • You live or work in St George and want to make a difference to your community.
  • You can commit to a 2 hour meeting every 6 weeks.
  • You are able to join our keyholder rota to open/close the centre for occasional parties and events.
  • You have skills that could help run this community building. At the moment we're particularly looking for support with marketing and fundraising.

This is a voluntary position, but we can promise plenty of tea and biscuits at meetings. If you're interested in joining us please email us at stgeorgecc@hotmail.com explaining how your skills and experience could help St George Community Centre.

Changes at the Centre

Firstly a rather belated Happy New Year to you all. We hope 2015 is going to be a busy year at St George Community Centre.

We are pleased to report that Jo Drummond has now settled in as our part-time Centre Co-ordinator. Jo is the person to talk to about hire enquiries and is available at the centre on Monday mornings, or the usual number and email at other times.

We also have some rather sad news. Kate Gascoyne, our current Chairperson, is standing down after many years serving on the Management Committee. It has been a pleasure to work with Kate, who has a passion for her local community and has helped make the centre what it is today. The rest of us on the committee would like to say an enormous thank you to Kate for her leadership and her sheer hard work. We will miss you and you are a hard act to follow.
